Well well, the future husband and I have made our kick start on the venue hunting! This began on February 23, 2013 and lasted for about 4-5 hours. We felt pretty productive and accomplished having checked out 3 different venues! Now here are a small list of my main things I was looking for as I visited these locations (more about the location later...)
*
I wanted a grand looking reception hall. Not something too busy or floral-like.
Just something that had that "grand and royal" feel to it.
*
I'm anal about the whole "buffet" option. I very much preferred a sit-down dinner.
However, I realized there might be an issue
Will touch upon this later on.
*
Decent size restrooms
*
I should feel that the price I'm paying pp (per person) is a number that makes sense.
It should not be a ridiculous amount

Terrace on the Parks - located in Flushing, NY.
We didn't have to make an appointment to come in. So we showed up here first. We met with Manager Norman and he told us a flat price not including food because we were looking at having Indian Food. He showed us around. I have to admit the place is beautiful. My only dislike is the fact that the dance floor is pretty small. However, everything is very spacious. I've read many reviews online and it seems as though its a hit or miss place. Some had rave reviews while others had horrible experiences. I personally did not connect with Mr. Norman. However, I won't make my final judgement based on that one meeting. We did not stay long and it was a basic tour. I did find that Norman thought he knew way too much about "guyanese" people. He constantly made remarks.
Worlds Fair Marina - Flushing, NY
We met with Mr. Jimmy and right away I felt that he was very receptive. He asked what we were looking for and even when I asked about the sit down dinner, he offered to accommodate for it. I loved the whole water view thing, it's in Queens right off the highway and would be nearby for most family members located in Queens. If the weather is nice, he offered to set up the cocktail tables and chairs outside and said we could come up to 3 hrs earlier to take photos if we wished. Space-wise I think it's cutting it close for cramped up or having the tables too close.
Golden Terrace - Richmond Hill, NY
We met with a very nice lady here and she was very receptive as well. The actual hall is huge and this place had the largest dance floor of the three. Mind you, for us West Indians, the dance floor is a huge thing! We wanna be able to dance and have enough room to do that! Now, same situation here. They did offer us the Indian menu as well like Worlds Fair Marina. The only thing to me is it is just one open room. It had no "wow" factor to it. When I think reception, I think that it needs to look more formal than a party hall. You know what I mean? Of course cost-wise, this price here would work out the best!
My fiance wanted West Indian Food at the reception for a dinner choice. I don't really care because I'm a vegetarian and I would do fine with just Indian food. You know our people though, if it doesn't have their curry powder or the right masala and pepper, it ain't "real" food. Haha! It's the same for both sides of the family. Jimmy at WFM offered to let us bring in three additional West Indian Curries at no charge! That would be a total of 6 Meat Curries and 2 Veggie...wow! Talk about having enough food :)
Also, I realized if the couple decided to opt for the Indian Menu...it is literally impossible to have the sit down dinner because of our style in eating. We don't sit for dinner with one dish. It's usually a combination of several curries and naan/roti, etc. The only way my dream of having the sit down dinner would be possible, would be if I got rid of the Indian Menu and went for American or Italian orrrr I only offered a limited variety of the Indian Menu. Any opinions on this?
Have you couples looked any where else? Let me know and hook a sister up with some info!

Outdoor locations seem more cost effective because separate payments do not need to be paid for venue in this case. The reception can be handled perfectly within the same location.
